It's hour three at the Cape Coral boat ramp, and the line isn't moving. Burrowing Al is on the scene with a clipboard and a whistle, judging the day's competitors on backing a trailer in straight — a skill that, it turns out, is in very short supply. One driver jackknifes so badly the truck ends up facing the wrong lake. Another gets a round of applause just for staying inside the lines. Al scores every attempt like an Olympic judge while the 250-ft flagpole watches over the whole spectacle from the shore, unbothered as ever.
